Poem
Leisurely sat on a busy beach A hive of noise and activity A collage of shifting Shape and colour form Just casually surveying the view I felt the hot intense expanding rays Of the sun Scorch and burn my sensitive skin As I watched the wrinkled sea of blue Lap and fold My hair was tussled and strewn Somewhere in the near distance The pulsating syncopated beat Emitting, from a radio Wafted through the air Making my foot tap And makes me feel so good Heads bobbed up and down Of wadding bathers Children were, playing Building sand castles The smell of the salty air And hotdogs Melting, ice cream And sunscreen The rushing galloping hush sound of Cascading waves Kites dancing high From a taught string At the mercy of the wind Dogs Playing fetch All of this makes me sigh And smile From within Big thin tall and small A mingled single couples families and friends Glossy bare flesh ripening on display Polyester cotton textiles Hide fleshy parts unseen Suddenly and unexpectedly My attention was captured By an unfolding spectacle before me To some, it may not seem much But to me It was a treasured memory That made me happy to see As two rotundly Ladies In tight bulging bathing costumes Stood together Facing each other Like a mirrored reflected Duplication Both suddenly smiled At the same time Without a word uttered Their cheeky smiling eyes spoke Silently what was on their mind In an instant The two Middle-aged Ladies Suddenly transformed Back in time To when they were both kids Of eight or nine They turned toward the sea And raced each other Giggling all the way Made me smile One private captured moment But to myself wasn't just a moment But for me a treasured memory Rasing so many unanswered questions Who were they? Where they sisters? Or just friends? Where did they come from? How did they meet? And why? I never found out But I was inspired It fired my imagination And thought, there's a story here to be written I kept on the shelf. The reason why this little seemingly, none important Moment stuck, was because it taught me something I didn't expect That life can be too serious and complicated We forget to smile play and have fun We all have an inner child inside us It's good to let the child out Sometimes Or we can go out of our minds.
