~Exaggeration is Part of the Game~

Back in the day, I remember my momma always used to say things like, “If I had a nickel for every time I had to pick up your dirty underwear, I’d be a millionaire by now.” I always believed her because she was MOM and when she curled her tongue out and shook her finger, you by God, better mind what she was saying. As I was sitting here on the porch enjoying this so-called winter weather, I started thinking about how I used the same line on my kids. Or at least, something similar. I decided to do a little ‘cyphering’ (old timey math to you educated folk) to see if I too should be a millionaire. I decided that for my calculations, 20 years should do it. Seeing as to how I got married and was carted off to Germany when I was eighteen. But we’ll save that story for another time.
Let’s say that she had to tell me every day for those 20 years. That’s 20 x 365 = 7300 days (now that does seem like a lot). Let’s see here, if she got 5 cents every day, that’d be 7300 x .05 = $365. Wow, seriously? Kind of makes me question some other things she always told me. Crap… I bet I never would have gone blind.

                                            Because she said so,
                                     my momma was always right,
                                          except when she wasn’t.
