Poem
It's snowing in Tallahassee It's very cold in Miami It's very slippery under the palm trees And it's very cool in Haiti. It's snowing heavily in Florida All the streets are vacated and empty The coconut trees are coated with snow We are almost in a state of siege. It's snowing in Tallahassee We are worried in Miami Everyone is sick and cold But they say that the snow will fall in Haiti One day and that will be a divine blessing That's what we imagine on the heavy cross The snow will bring a fresh and dry wind To calm the bad spirits in disarray Then, we hope to see a sign of unity Peace, harmony and security. For four decades, no snow In the city of Miami At home, in Haiti We would be in a state of siege That'd be a blessing against abject poverty And an insult to corruption and filthiness. It's snowing, yet Florida is sunny The snowbirds are not too grumpy and angry Nevertheless, they rejoice Since Florida is not Canada The country "where snow and wind are married" Wrote Gilles Vigneault. The cold weather Is important and desirable in winter On the tropical floor, and on the green carpet. It's snowing in Tallahassee It's very cold in Miami It's very windy under the pine trees And it's very misty in Haiti. In the North, where there's plenty of empty space The inhabitants enjoy the rime frost, white and black ice. ©Copyright January 2018 Logerie Hébert, All rights reserved Hébert Logerie is the author of several collections of poems.
