Poem
All the stars and their kingdoms use Christ’s name in error Muttering to themselves “Who is this quiet torchbearer?” “Where did he come from; what place birthed this wise wayfarer?” “How did this soul come here? Why did he come, this cross bearer?” The dancing stars asked, “Why are we in a swirling mist?” “Where did falsehood, which clothes the whole cosmos, entered our midst?” The first kingdom proclaims the sun of life came from light That bright son was nourished in heaven’s garden without plight That sun was crowned with light’s flaming glory and with might That son came down to his mother’s bosom to be held tight And soon the sun set into a muddy water spring He certainly was and is the son, who brings the dayspring The second kingdom says that he came from a prophet A bird came down and took the child without thoughts of profit And took him into a mountain rather than Tophet She fed him, until an angel came from the sky’s closet The angel proclaimed “Rise! Light has given you glory!” And the man went to the water. This is their old story The third kingdom says that he came from a virgin’s womb That the lamb was cast out of his fold to escape his doom To the desert filled with serpents, and corpses trapped in tombs He grew under glory’s light and power to soon bloom Light guided the lamb to the river in a barren place This is half the truth, the other was nearly erased The fourth kingdom says that he came from a virgin pure Solomon sought her with his army of daemons impure She was brought to the king, and he saw her bright allure She birthed a child, and fed him in the desert to mature As he was fed, he was crowned with power and glory For his great blood, and he entered the lake of satori The fifth kingdom says that he was a drop from the sky He was cast into the sea as heaven started to cry The deep took him in, and begot him without a sigh And brought him up to the sky again, with waves that fly high That child received power pouring and glory shining And that child from the blue sky never made any whining The sixth kingdom sings that a maiden of light came down To catch flowers that grew in her light which shined all around She became pregnant by this wanting that brought her down She gave birth amongst the flowers, and soon she made a crown Angels saw the small child wearing that crown of flowers So they nourished him, and crowned him with glory for hours
