There were times when I was thinking…
Wondering if I could possibly make it,
Through the grief, the signs showing me –
I didn’t have the strength, the depth, the belief…
Everything I would need to make it beyond –
The staggering shadows of loss and defeat,
The overwhelming doubt, dread and despair!

There were times when I just couldn’t see…
Past the darkness, the fears and tears, 
All the reasons that I just couldn’t imagine…
There was a way for me to make it out of this tragedy,
This calamity and heartbreak, the reasons…
My heart was breaking, my soul was quaking,
And I just couldn’t believe I had the power to make it through,
Out of the pain, the darkness of the rain –
The anguish that portrayed all the reasons I had prayed…
For the God of love and hope – to give me a way to cope!

There were times when I was trembling with fear,
Times when I would have died if He hadn’t held me near,
Times when I cried and times when I felt like giving in…
To the dread and despair, the awkwardness of doubt,
But, because He is love and because He is from up above…
I realized that, with Him, I had a way past the grief.
I could make it through the rain because He knows my pain,
And He gives me the strength to regain my faith,
To whisper a prayer and have the chance to succeed.

Because He lives – and because of all He gives,
I can reach beyond this fear, this darkness and gloom,
Find my way through the anguish into the beautiful place…
Where He lives to give me a second chance,
A new day – a new way…
The faith to enter His gates with thanksgiving,
The faith to believe – He is always with me,
The faith to silence all those inner demons…
Who war with my spirit and long to wreck my heart,
Abolish all my hope and end my faith in His love.

Because He lives – I can know that He is with me,
Sending light into my shadowy silences,
Sending laughter into those places of doubting,
Sending joy into the moments of quiet,
Sending love into my life so that I feel Him there beside me,
Ever alive, ever making a way through the sorrows,
Erasing all the worries, the tears…
Brightening my life with His grace, His embrace…

He is the answer to all my prayers for a love,
A love that comes from the home up above,
A love that will make a way for me to say…
I’ve finally found the One who shines like the SON.
He is the promise of hope, faith and love for everyone!
