In love and war, they say all is fair,
But once, when I took the marriage dare
Feelings, dark as night,
Burdened me, an angry fight.
While I rested upon my bed,
He stirred beside me as darkness spread.
Once alone in my melancholic state,
Long before I was escorted by my mate,
Tears would haunt me, cleansing my heart,
Reminding me that soon my love would depart.
Could that be shots ringing in my head?
There isn’t a doubt, my affection would soon be dead.

He often stared into my eyes,
Such a gaze – would ever chastise!
His love was like a silent moon, reflecting…
Though I was not so sure what he was expecting.
Would his love last past the new?
Honestly, I didn’t have a clue!
Although he promised we’d last forever,
He certainly wasn’t very clever.

He died, his spirit drifting away, like the dew beneath the sun,
No one ever knew what I’d done, 
They might search, but wouldn’t find my gun –
It was buried with him, this man who my heart would shun!

The only reason I can’t seem to forget his tears,
When I search through the memories, all those years,
His ghost seems more like a passing song,
Whose refrain reminds me of what I’ve done wrong.
But, when all is said and done and he’s finally gone,
I sneer at the phantom of my beloved Don Juan!
