Poem
When Death invites you for tea, you can’t be rude and just say no You’d like to refuse her hospitality, find any reason not to go She sent a special invitation, a very intimate tete è tete She’s a warm and generous hostess, with a buffet of great delights It is a honor to be invited, party crashers can make her mad She likes to send invitations, believing pre-notice is only nice You think of all the excuses, that would keep you busy on this day But deep down you know you’ll be attending, this one commitment you can not break You sigh as you RSVP her, you’ll be attending tea time at her house You then prepare in anticipation, counting the days till time arrives Your now looking forward to this meeting, and only in style you decide to go Your Sunday dress will be just perfect, in no less would you meet a Queen, For this gracious invitation, will be a once in a lifetime special thing You ring the bell with a nervous finger, calming quickly as she opens up the door Death radiates warmth and friendship, as she takes your hand to invite you in You thank her for the invitation, saying you were hesitant to come She smiles and says that’s normal, her invitations are usually a surprised one She’s happy that you chose to come, to her that means the world Because that means with dignity, grace and courage, The choice was yours to walk through her opened door So, when Death invites you for tea time, put on your Sundays best You’ll be welcomed like lost family, who have finally made it home
