Poem

I first began running, just to have fun,
A way to exercise out in the sun.
A light wind was blowing, what a pleasure,
The time alone was a hidden treasure.

I found myself running mile after mile,
Never a thought of technique or style.
Slowly but surely, I picked up my pace,
Then I decided to enter a race.

Everyone was tense, waiting for the gun,
Muscles flexed and ready to run.
The start was fast, and up a hill.
Adrenaline flowing, what a thrill.

The pack was tight, too many feet,
Time to gut up, I had to dig deep.
I need to get out, I need to accelerate,
Increase my turnover rate.

Nearing halfway, I have my plan,
I’ll start picking off man after man.
I ‘ll consistently focus on the attack,
I’ll soon catch up with the lead pack.

Now that I’m here, just one mile to go,
Everyone is tiring, we’re beginning to slow.
Gathering our strength, holding the pace,
Preparing to sprint to the end of the race.

Based on the past, I know what I need,
I’ll start my kick early; I don’t have much speed.
The last guy is giving in,
I’ve got this, I did it, I win.
