Written on 10 September 2023 For: Vanilla Poetry Contest Sponsored by Charlotte Puddifoot A Vanilla Bond It is a bond knitted at first instance That sparks off a soothing fragrance, As seductive as a vanilla scent That captivates the heart without relent. It is a bond knitted since youthful days That has tightened day in day out Through every shine of the sun and its blaze, Through mutual love and abstinence of doubt. It is a bond that has been fortified By the ardent wish and will of two souls; It is a bond that has been sanctified By the blessings of parents as a whole. It is a bond that has been fastened Through summer and wintry seasons With mutual care and devotion, With true passion and emotion. This bond has not been a stranger To ups and downs, to stress and strains To petty squabbles and anger, But these have been fixed without pain, This is a bond that ties two souls Beyond the bounds of time and space, For better or for worse as a whole In all storms in life they may face. This is a bond that tells the tale Of two souls mounting their last vales, Battered by gales and storms of life But still not shattered by the strife. This is a bond that tells the tale Of the fitting art of living, Of living that is inspiring Beyond an atom of a veil. Let the vanilla perfume of their bond Outlive their last breath and still spread beyond To serve as lively and lovely lessons For youth who wish to scan the horizon.
