Poem
I always looked after my baby brother. I was like a mini superhero for him. Until I wasn't... You can be the greatest hero and you will somehow never be appreciated nor be enough for those who are meant to be family. Especially if they don't see themselves as your family... When my stepdad died (of the Texas flu pandemic in 1980), my (half) brother irrationally blamed me and things were never the same again. No matter how hard I tried. This song is for him. Love and light. I'm not the superhero you chose By Michelle Morris 17/08/2023 When we were young I always tried to be your superhero I protected you from everything I protected you from everyone It was always me Expected to save you from yourself It was always my responsibility To keep your mind innocent and strong But I feel like I didn't get it right All those years of trying, trying Trying to have your back And all you did was turn it on me It's me, I, I'm the problem to you It's me, I, I'm not the superhero you chose It's me, I, I'm the problem you see It's me, I, no longer save your soul What is it about big sisters That we think we can save the world? What is it like to be the youngster Without a care or responsibilities? All of the weight of the world It was always on my shoulders I never got to have a childhood Raised to be the warrior holy But I feel like I didn't get it right All those years of trying, trying Trying to have your back And all you did was turn it on me It's me, I, I'm the problem to you It's me, I, I'm not the superhero you chose It's me, I, I'm the problem you see It's me, I, no longer save your soul And now here we are Decades later, across the world The world I tried to save for you Became the wall between us And now here we are Decades later, all connections severed The world I tried to fix for you Just became more broken Oh, yes, I know I didn't get it right All those years of trying, trying Trying to have your back And all you did was turn it on me All you ever did was turn it on me You turned your back on me You hurt my feelings and memories You cut my heart out and gave it back to me It's me, I, I'm the problem to you It's me, I, I'm not the superhero you chose It's me, I, I'm the problem you see It's me, I, no longer save your soul It's me, I, I'm the problem to you It's me, I, I'm not the superhero you chose It's me, I, I'm the problem you see It's me, I, no longer save your soul © Michelle Morris, 2023
