Poem
My flag is not black n white with a blue streak My flag is not a field of white stars n scars of machine guns My flag is not the fat face of a demagogue Orange, pale, like a bandit in the night, a loon! It flutters in the breeze, proud My flag may be tattered or torn Sitting in the rain Sun bleach or worn, but... My flag shines bright Its stars are still as brilliant as any future Blue n white as Heaven on high Crimson the blood of a nation, bold! It flies high above this fleeting earth My flag flies bright red, white, and blue The white lines of integrity, the crimson of humanity Sapphire blue of understanding and humility My flag is not a symbol of some Conman A false messiah, a demagogue My banner lies on the coffins of The Brave The Bold, The Soldiers, The 1st Responders From wars, foreign and domestic Drenched in the tears of heaven The pain of the loss, at what cost? For the soul of my nation is not the raving of the delusional My flag, despite its tatters and warm edges from the fight Over what is right and wrong, Flies still high in the dawns morning sky My flag lies not in a puddle In a ruined city of the meek, the Brainwashed, the fools, the sycophants My flag covers the brave and those of diversity, The free, the forgotten, and abused AND misbegotten. My flag is not black and white and blue with a streak. It doesn’t fly over a demagogue, or covered with machine guns Painted faces profane, and insane... Bars, social whores, and the ill-spent wealth of the rich inflame... My flag flies over this land A land true and free even if it's not perfect And neither are we My flag flies above this shining shore As a beacon in the night The night of ignorance and blight For others who are tattered and torn For brothers, n sisters not yet born For those who are far from these shores My flag stays true My flag flies over his land of the brave This land of inequity This land of diversity This land of fragility However, what may be It flies over the free and the brave, So all can see by dawn's early light So proudly it we hail I see you stand by my flag Never it droop, Don't let it fail, my brother It, nay! We shall always prevail My flag flies in twilight’s last gleaming My flag stands true, it stands free. Defiant... I'll be damned if you don't like it..
