Poem
I merge with the painting Am I within shadows? Spending time in the gallery was uplifting but I was drawn to Valette's "Under the Windsor Bridge" Noted how I was reflected onto the painting as I took a photograph and became just another shadow I could move my angle so the other framed paintings aren't also scattered across the image, but I like something about capturing the present surroundings within an old painting Myself and the silhouette look into the shadows to see what emerges The frames behind me are Lowry's paintings so it is a mingling of Salford scenes Reflection and shadow - such interesting concepts Neither are reality but we often study them with more intensity than any clear day Looking for answers where pieces of the puzzle are missing but dismissing that which hides nothing Why do we seek answers in the void? There are so few answers there But still we stare Believing there's a moment We'll become aware I care not to see the bridge in sharp focus Nor will I visit it in person But I, like the silhouette, will look into the smog of over 100 years ago and feel some answer waits there If only I could train my eye or mind to see Would the realisation make sense of life? What drifts on the fog are the words 'there you are, I waited for you, I knew you'd come' We all watch and wait Does the moment happen? I don't know - it's not as foggy anymore Do I want what I can see clearly? Am I the reflection, the shadow or something else - we are all missing the details of what it is to be known, maybe I can assume we are better for it - that would depend on my mood Dissection and cataloguing is for science and art can be reimagined as many times as you like I am the shadow, the reflection and the clear day, I am the voice and the silhouette, I am the past, present and future, then I am gone To dissapate from fog, to mist, to nothingness There's no solidity to time Or existence The poem can't end as I didn't start it It's the meandering mind It tails off Your thoughts can chase it Perhaps they'll meet And they'll be recognition for a fleeting moment Perhaps we should hold hands on foggy days As my reflection joins the silhouette in the shadows - just for the briefest moment
