Nictitating membrane emerges during sleep
Then mouth clamps shut, so impossible to speak

The dream grabs my hand, forces a stroll
Chained mind to body then darkness stole

Images/emotions arrive as past thought
Create scenes of chaos, nerves jangled and fraught

I know the ending though origin confused
The details of the middle disorientedly refused

Breath that stalls, gets lodged in the throat 
Inhalation of smog laden air and dust mote

Then fall through the silence into the scream
Clawing for safety, half way in/out of the dream

A silhouette of a familar shape snakes into view
Not sure if the insights or apparent facts are true

Never assured of verisimilitude of day
When just the closing of eyes takes it all away
