Poem
An open poem to my past “Leaving things behind” By Rebecca Dominique Morris So I guess that’s it , I’m leaving and it’s a choice I can’t take back It’s not because right here is something I lack Instead it’s about growth and realising how far I’ve come That will not register with some I’ve had my hand dealt and I’ve played the cards right It’s not a decision or choice that came light But it is something that I need to do for me This is about me finally being free Too long I’ve been caught up in things that weren’t worth my time I guess the closure I’ve had means I’m actually doing just fine I’ve fought for years to prove who I really am Self love taught me stop redirecting and to Start giving a damn I’ve come a long way and I’m so proud of myself It’s actually something I’ve worked through that has been good for my Health I’ve Been used and abused and taken advantage of for far too long I’m sick of singing and replaying the same old song This chapter of my life is called my turn It’s been brought about from all the lessons I’ve learned And for that I’m thankful because without them I wouldn’t be where I now stand I never needed anyone to hold my hand I’m self made and I’m independent as can be For my happiness can hold the key Because I’ve found all I am and what I’m worth I’m finally at peace and at one with the earth Ive come along way and through the pain found strength But what I’ve been through came at great length So I will no longer apologise for what I leave behind Sometimes you’ve got to be cruel to be kind I’m about to get everything I’ve worked hard for And now this is my time to soar !
