Poem
Unhinged power grasps, its hold so tight, Unyielding, unchecked, chains corrode the soul. Distorted truths, concealing in plain sight, In shadows lurk, devouring the whole. What slips unheeded, slipping in the dusk? With eyes wide shut, we stumble through each day. The veil between perception and the risk, It fades away, as logic's fearsome sway. Unhinged, unheard, unnoticed in its reign, The power's grip defies the natural course. It bends the rivers, molds the barren plain, Altering our perception with brute force. Yet still, we wander, lost in boundless haze, Blind witnesses to this dark, unholy blaze. What now becomes of history's great chain? Each link we forge, a moment etched in time. Do we record the truth or bend the grain, Expanding truthfulness through prose and rhyme? Can power's grasp be tempered by our cries, Or are we helpless pawns in its cruel dance? Will knowledge flourish where deception lies, Or shall it wither under power's glance? Unhinged, unchecked, the power's gaze extends, Through veins of thought, it twists and intertwines. Our history, marred by its subtle bends, Transforming narratives of distant times. Yet still, we strive to wrest control away, To breathe new life into the fading gray. The natural world, an echo in our minds, A fragile glimpse of truth within the storm. We wander, searching for what we may find, But nature's voice is oftentimes forlorn. Can we restore the balance, find our place, And heal the wounds of the unnatural surge? Or shall we blindly yield to power's face, Ignoring nature's whispers and its urge? Unhinged, unbridled, power holds its sway, But deep within, a primal spark remains. The whispers of the earth cannot betray, For truth endures, beyond power's refrains. While power's grip may tighten and confine, The human spirit shall forever shine. Unhinged power, relentless in its might, Yet in the struggle, hope still finds its way. Through poems and philosophy we unite, To challenge the dominance of this display. Enlightenment within the darkened haze, Perception shifts as knowledge takes its stand. Though power's hold may haunt our waking days, The power of the mind still echoes grand. Unhinged power may strive to chain us all, But wisdom's call resounds above its fall. 11th July 2023 Pick-A-Title, Vol 37 - Poetry Contest Sponsor: Edward Ibeh
