Poem

I dropped my specs
As I got out of bed
I picked them up and banged my head
The bedroom floor was cold as ice
I slipped over not once but twice
As I lay, spreadeagle on the floor
Suddenly my husband came through the door
In his hand, a cup of tea
That he accidentally spilled all over me.

His kind face was full of woe,
He tried to pick me up and trod on my toe.
I grabbed the covers on the bed,
But captured the sleeping cat instead
The cat was not the best pleased
And in my face, that animal sneezed
As I tried to wipe my face
I saw everywhere was out of place
The cat was lapping up the tea
That my husband had kindly made for me.

He had tried and tried,
To pick me up, and so
I told him please would he let me go
He was so out of breath
And he looked very near to death
I felt like I was going insane
I was feeling stiff in pain
Then I saw it on the floor
Just by the half-closed bedroom door
It occurred to me
My husband must have dropped it
When he brought in the tea

My hubby is a tall man,
With his long legs, he can
Kick the article by the door
To me, lying on the floor
He did this
And we could see the light
At the end of the tunnel
That would end our plight
It was his mobile phone
I quickly called our son, and he was home
He came to rescue us straight away
Then he cooked breakfast for us,
That he served on a tray.
