Poem

It’s late in the evening 
and I’ve been writing most of the day.   
I’m growing weary, 
not much more to say. 
It’s time to take my flag down
and water the grass.
Watch the sunset.
Let time pass.
I wrote a few poems this afternoon
One for Jesus
and two for  
who knows who. 
I said some things.
Wish I could remember.
But it’s all a blur now, fading
into embers.
Writing is like that you know. 
Little bits of insight, followed 
by much more boring stuff.
Like “Isn’t life so meaningful, 
or else so rough and tough.”  Bullsh..
I’ve had enough.
To last a lifetime 
If you ask me.  I’m tired 
of waiting
for the plenitude 
of my dreams.    
Other chores are calling me,  
like the kitchen sink.
Dirty dishes need washing now
I think.
While listening to that annoying 
clicking clock on the wall.
Ticking off time
down memory hall, sadly 
forgetting more than
I can recall.
Now I feel spent as if 
I didn’t make a dent
writing and rambling on this way.  
That must mean something, I guess
I’ve done enough for today.
So tomorrow I’ll 
watch the sun rise, pouring 
light into my eyes, and hope 
it’s just as fruitful once again.
It may not sound like much
but writing keeps me in touch
with that stranger 
deep within.
