Poem

I sojourn this life with a searchlight of doubt,
a walking stick of learning borrowed from past,
I limp my way through like one with painful gout,
deep darkness is blinding, progress is not fast! 

such trail has been walked by many before,
through puddles of deceit, evil and cunning,
these routes are harsh, human challenges many more,
the end of journey is time for reckoning?

conscience is an infant that cries with first cry,
wakes to reality of this tainted world,
its purity lost however hard you try,
where survival is key, morals do not hold! 

my conscience is tainted, smudged and I know well!
when you walk the rivers your feet will be wet,
I make no excuses for in wrongs I dwell,
when every breath is lie, clean air you forget!

So you ask me now for the clean sheet of life?
when I crossed path you lay for me so vile,
I tell no fibs to cover the staines from strife,
I tell the truth, make no attempts to beguile!

I shall not fall on knees and ask to forgive,
stand in front of you, as truthful as could be,
world is so tainted, no other way to live,
punish or forgive as you would, this is just me!
