Poem
Sunset In the late afternoon hours Of a sizzling sunny summer day Gazing from a rustic bower, On a sandy beach in the west, At the bright slowly setting sun Presents a delightful sight On the far distant horizon. It is a sight beyond belief As the sun dashes its crimson rays Without any sign of relief On the undulating waves, That do crash against coral reefs To form a long milky stretch, That shortly dies in the lagoon. It is a sight beyond compare, That bestows immense joy to the heart, Peace and quietude to the mind And a sense of solace imparts To the soul that one cannot find In the hustle of the city, Devoid of such beauty. Soon the sizzling sun slides in the sea At the far distant horizon, Heralding the onset of dusk While the sky, hitherto crimson, Turns light grey, driving the sparrows And other birds to seek refuge In their nests with a tinge of sorrow. With the parting of the splendid day, As prelude to the coming night, Cheerful stars up high make their way Glittering dimly in the sky Alongside a new crescent moon That plays hide and seek behind the clouds And in the heavens fades away soon. Shortly the dark night creeps in Invading the land in its gloom, Marking the time to scan within The vast depth of the inner self, To engage in some blissful dreams Or to rest after a day`s sweat To pick up strength to move upstream. Like the sunset is human life: Begotten by the divine grace, Man, after his journey full of strife Fades away in the vast unknown, Shrouded in the darkness of night, Bearing with him but his noble deeds As from the earth he takes his flight. Yet a new dawn will rise tomorrow And surely with it a new sunrise And a new sunset will follow: Like the sunset is human soul, It is immortal and never decays, But shifts from body to body And lives for ages and ages Until it wrecks the chain to merge With the Supreme Soul for eternity, Until it attains the Divinity.
