Poem
I still remember my first visit to the Coastal town I thought I was prepared for what I'll see But it's been even more this can't be planned It was great I came first hand cause being told cuts out the sweetness I remember walking by old town streets How the streets were filled with the locals All going about their day speaking in swahili that I didn't know For the only swahili I had was from school and novels I'd come prepared with lots of jeans But the heat would make me opt for shorts And sandals they called makubathi to go with And here I was walking,a dark skinned man amidst all this browness I was fortunate to go to Fort Jesus Sat by the old canons that were there And imagined how it felt during an invasion For all i could see was water and land masses a far A vendor gave me a fruit fresh from its husk He cut the top of it and made a spoon from it It was the sweet refreshing coconut water Of which i ate till the last white yoke in it and bought more Before my trip was over I asked if I could see the ferry And if I could go to the other side Just before we went to the beach So that I dip my toes into the hot beach sand The trip showed me a bit history of the island But i felt like i needed to have more of it Thats why I look forward to when I'll be there next Oooh take me back to the shores for I could spend the rest of my days watching sunsets The PO£T
