Sharpened pens were brutal swords; a war was forged
Blow after blow was struck, with blood rage engorged
Not one single word between them had been spoken
No flag of truce waved, or friendship offered as token

Nothing was off limits, nor were any boundaries set
For years they'd battled, hard fought without regret
Shots fired in verses, hostile lines of rhyme flung
Barrages of ammunition in lines of poetry slung

Bitter blood between them, fought from long range
Each side held a stronghold without hint of change.
Dueling pens, the weapon chosen across continents
Snarling dingo vs. feisty eagle, stubborn malcontents

Lulls until a sniper's shot increased the warring pace
He had donned a leather vest; she wore silk and lace
Grudges held, and tart comments made in retaliation
Bullseye hit by one; the other flared with indignation

With promise of victory, each warrior proudly boasted
Another poem to slam the threat was then posted
Sword fights to the death with each thrust and parry
Epee masks in place. To the battlefield without tarry!

Each bulwark and rampart destroyed when was razed
Wounded belligerents fought on after being grazed
Still no truce was struck, not even by Garibaldi's hand
He entrenched in the down under, she in freedom's land

Skirmish raged, she called him Scaramouch, the villain
Neither would surrender. Neither of them was willin'
The cagy canine dared vaunt of her defeat, his glory
But ever vigilant, she was on the heels of her quarry

As wrestlers in a ring, they threw punches on the site
She was bitten; toothmarks left from the dingo's bite
He licked his wounds, inflicted by the hazel-eyed girl
Aggressively, abrasive words, they continued to hurl

Combat ready as lines of grotty limericks exploded
End of another cease fire. Weapons locked and loaded
Would nothing terminate the battles in this crusade
Surrender not on the agenda. Barbs traded in tirade

Vicious assaults were never planned but always borne
on the wings of fury in metaphors and similes of scorn.
Enemies locking horns. Which of them would prevail?
He steadfast, she not frail, clashing on the feuding trail

To arms with pens raised, and another battle spawned
Limerick lances were created and new battlelines drawn
He, she thought, was an arrogant ass, had a hesitation
In the same moment, the maiden was in contemplation

By chance, their paths happened to cross once more
A new tactic, she decided she'd give herself the chore
of making the first move, so she scribbled him a note
"I'd really like to put an end to our warring," she wrote

Weary of animosity after the newest skirmish with her rival
She suggested they end the war to ensure mutual survival
Neither would hoist a white flag or give forfeit in surrender
At last a deal was struck in the conflicts of opposing gender

Declarations of peace were made and a treaty signed
After talking a while, they realized they'd both been blind
In friendship united; no more warring juejos were written
Could it be the dingo's bite has left the eagle smitten?
