Poem
I've since looked at Kiss IV by Munch about his relationship with Tulla Larsen and may revisit poem this as I feel differently about this painting now... Inspired by the oil painting, Eye in Eye by Edvard Munch, 1894. Viewing the painting will help make sense of the poem. I look, you look, nobody sees Tresses tangle and ensnare Both of us, locked in place, unloved The tree, the only one truly alive here You are present, I see you Though you evanesce, fade, volatilize The bare minimum left in place I am scrutinised, though unseen None of the information about me ever obtained from me Every questioning stare, holds corrosive power that burns away my skin, dissolves my energy As I use all my resolve to survive staying, here The tree canopy covers me in kindness Or enshrouds me sadly I no longer sense the difference There is no sight to see through the house windows No observation, eye in eye I stand and I stare Burning from the inside out In silent contemplation, of my fixed position No one speaks to heal my pain, no arms embrace Comfort is withheld Should I fall at your feet, I'd be absorbed by the ground, out of existence The only chance of bliss, to become the green of the tree But the tree also stands alone, rooted to the spot alone and unseen We're all sorry, but here we are In the garden, doing our best impression of connecting By standing, face to face, eye in eye I feel misunderstood to the point of internal rot Unknown to the point of physical pain But I'll walk out of the shade of the tree Sit in the sun and be thankful Today contained no outward distain of spoken words Just that look, that removes my validity We're all sorry But here we are
