Poem

Tis not the breath of God that killed the town,
by a spree of dark and twisted clouds
groaning, moaning and churning up the ground,
these winds that roared in anger freight loads loud.

The siren failed to give the folks alarm.
Previous storms had simply passed on through.
They knew not of this close impending harm.
A forecaster prayed when seeing what was due. 

The wind, whipped, naked trees, stand   for the dead,
once living, and by noontime stripped away.
They represent this place of human dread,
with morn beginning as a sunny day.

Tis not the breath of God that killed the land,
but all destructive forces made by man.

Rolling Fork was hit by an EF4 tornado last Saturday. The devastating whirlwinds killed at least 25 people in the region at the time, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. The town only has a population of 2000, and 1400 homes were destroyed.
