When I viewed the painting The Sirens and Ulysses, I studied the faces of the Sirens. They appeared vacuous and disinterested, whilst still beautiful. The mythology of the Sirens is interesting, as there isn't any real indication they are motivated in any way by the role they play, whether cursed or whether simple instinct of a non human being. Of course I'm not sure when they put their make up on or have their tea - perhaps they are more complex when 'off the clock' :)

Here I am, that is all I proclaim
Playing music, fulfilling the aim
Part of a very simple game
Cursed in the past, this is the bane
No rest at all, not warmed by the flame
Incredible beauty, but not vain
No end point or need for acclaim
Every minute of the day the same
No emotions, not even shame
Captured but it's yourself to blame
Efforts wax and wane
No real thoughts within my brain
Nothing of interest, nothing a strain
Music and death repeat the chain
