Poem
Way out in the desert Off Highway 89 My young life Tossed in tempest Till I met a Lady fine Angst had risen in me Life seemed like a sore But then A sweet thing happened Linda moved next door Her kindness, Such a shining light Her wisdom deep Her smile bright You'd think she'd see Me as a pest... But no, she reached Out sweet request And always she invited me As part of her sweet family And I, oh dear, I was no Saint But still, she never aimed complaint A bit too young to call her mother But how I felt she was my 'Other A faith she held within her heart Love, joy, peace, she would impart She knew me well, knew some, my hell She watched me climb, (I never fell) When returning from my Junior High Locked out from my house so I Climbed up the fence, (to her suspense) And through my bedroom window thence When finally my mom came home From shopping trip from where she'd rome Dear Linda saw my peeping face Peep through my window curtains lace And lift my window, then my climb Back to the ground, and just in time I'd stroll into our home's back door Like a million times before Mother laughed on seeing me, I'd been locked out She had the key... But next-door Linda laughed in glee My secret she held faithfully :) Mother believed I, locked outside, Would sweat the sunshine, hot n' fried Yet always appeared cool and sweet Knew not my entry quite discrete. And then I'd ask to go next door With my sweet friend whose love galore Made my life much happier A precious friend, that is for sure Memories, that long time ago And I am still washed in her glow So many joys to me she's brought And numerous, her lessons taught I spoke with my dear friend today Though she lives so far away She's still so precious, dear and kind And such a jewel, is hard to find Her life is lived in faithfulness Oh Father, thank You, and please bless My precious Linda, so dear to me A friend, for all, eternity
