"Pets are a homes . . . invisible soul." Quote by _Constance My name is Grumpy, well that's the name My Girl gave me. I don't think I ever had a name before. I was a street cat, a stray. I found her covered porch one day and that is where she found me. Admit I was bedraggled! When she tried to touch me I growled because I was afraid and that's how I got my name. Over the next days, she left me food and gave me treats. She had a cat called Fluffy that she took for a walk on a leash. I went too! In her backyard was a picnic bench and we would all sit there in the sun. It was so nice. One day she looked at me and said, Grumpy Cat you are coming inside! So, she scooped me up and carried me inside her home. I have to admit that I was scared. I ran from room to room looking for a hiding place. Later, I crawled out from under the bed and ate all of Fluffy's food, then, pushed her off the rocking chair and slept for a day. In the morning, My Girl said to me, Grumpy, your need a bath! So, off we went to the bathtub. I stood like a statue as she washed me four times. She told me I had lovely fur of multi colors and wrapped me in a towel. I liked that, she put me on her lap and spoke to me in a soothing voice and soon, I was sleeping again. That night she took me to bed with her, and I purred for the first time ever. I sounded like an old engine! Next, she took me to the VET. Oh, yes it was scary and I tried to make myself flat on that cold table. The vet stabbed me with sharp things, so I growled at him, he stuck something in my butt, so I gave him the look! He told My Girl, that I was about six years old. I went back a few weeks later for the "operation" if you know what I mean. I settled into a nice life, playing with Fluffy, following My Girl. Once I followed her onto a very busy street and often into the corner store. She had to make sure I was safe inside home when she went anywhere. But, I have a collar now and a home! I have Fluffy and My Girl and would never ever leave for the streets again. Have many adventures to share of this life that I love . . . but, best I do that in other stories yet to come. _________________________ March 14, 2023 Poetry/Personification/I am Grumpy Cat Beloved Pet Copyright Protected, ID 03-1534-445-14 All Rights Reserved, 2023, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, Beloved Pets sponsor, BJ Legros Kelley, Judged 03/26/2023 First Place
