Poem
I was moved to write this poem after watching the brilliant and thought-provoking show: "Without a Trace", Season 4, Episode 18: "The Road Home". When you're on your knees By Michelle Morris 17/08/2022 He got down on his knees Gave up his weapon and his hope His mother was a junkie Who had left him for her dope And all he ever wanted Was to keep his family together But after his father passed His mother couldn't care He had a little brother And two little sisters too The lived in a tiny apartment In New York City's millions He worked so hard To keep that roof over their heads But they were too far behind On their apartment rent He and a friend turned To a life of crime In order to get money To pay the bills on time But it all went wrong And he went to jail His siblings landed up Living with their aunt, far away His mother went to jail For child endangerment Her boyfriend was arrested For drugs and solicitation No one got out unscathed Just another missing person case But in the long run The children would be safe This is another story That teaches us life lessons The choices we make Can impact on our family and friends It's important to step back And look at the path we're taking Because if we're not careful It will be a mess we're making Every one has to choose Their attention and fate And whether they can love themselves Enough to learn from their mistakes And when you're on your knees It may be time to pray Get guidance for the light To shine the right way One by one We can take those steps Move forward with hope And less regret One by one We can stand tall again And over time become A whole person mended And when the time is served And we're set free We can make things right For our families And in the end Our slate is clean Our souls are healed And we are one with Him © Michelle Morris, 2022
