Poem
A meeting of two moms can be a wonderful thing a meeting of two minds is a beautiful thing… Shortly after we moved into our new house. My future mother and my wife’s sisters came down from New York, traveling almost 900 miles to meet me and my mom. That night we invited my mother over to meet Mrs. C and the girls. To have dinner… I was so nervous wondering how they would react to each other, it was a meeting of two different worlds, one southern, one northern. I remember her coming through the door, embracing Mrs. C, they became friends fast, love at first sight. As my wife and I prepared dinner we kept looking in on them, at first sitting across from each other and asking questions… The next time I peek in on them, they are setting next to each holding hands, laughing and giggling, they exchanged stories and memories and family trees. We talked over dinner, long into the night, we all held hands, held each other, cried and laughed, laughed and cried… Finally, it was getting late… My mom had to leave she needed her beauty sleep, as she would joke. We all embraced and kissed cheeks. I walked her home, the moon was full with a gentle breeze moving the trees. She leans close and tells me how much she loves her and enjoyed meeting her. She smiled, and gave her blessings that night… I returned home smiling, breathing a soft sigh of relief, feeling confident in a future with my future wife and new family. It was an evening I will never forget, even as my memory fades. Later I learned they exchange addresses and became pen pals. They were friends fast… A meeting of two moms is a wonderful thing… Fast forward, when my mom left this world… Mrs. C would become my second mom. Now I know they are together now embracing, laughing and crying, crying and laughing telling stories, sharing family trees late into heavenly nights n gentle breezes… RIP My Second Mother… 2/2/23
