Poem
Our family has strong spiritual beliefs. We do not believe in death of a soul. Only death of flesh which we do not need in heaven. For good reason, death does not mean death to us. We see things others may not see. We do not always share them. They are given to us as gifts. Death to us means the soul passes to a better place. On the day of grandpa’s funeral my dad watched him go to heaven. He traveled to a corner of the kitchen ceiling. A white light brought dad’s mother into focus. They walked off together – his father and his mother. She had been gone sixty years at that point. The day my dad “died” I saw him sitting in my car. He was wearing his usual big grin. I said “Here’s your job, Dad. Keep the deer away.” I had already hit four deer. On the way to my mother’s home, we passed seven deer. They all stood at attention at the side of the road. I said “Good job, Dad.” My mother-in-law slams the kitchen doors when she is displeased. She has been “gone” for fifteen years. My father-in-law smokes in our house when he visits. He left earth on October 1st, 1984 I say “Okay, Dwight, we know you are here. You can quit smoking.” We glimpse my dad from time to time- both my husband and myself. My mother has called us from her phone number three times since she passed. It was disconnected all three times. Death is not death to us. See why?
