Poem
Hello mom, hello dad, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, sister, brother… Do you remember me? Remember when we danced in the rain? Played pranks on the neighbor next door? Danny has another seashell for you, he wants to know if you still have the one from last summer? To all these you could not remember any This disease took a lot from you Slowly you forget the little things Then the big things Now all I get is a tone of hate and anger I feel you are yelling inside and that is the new way you can talk to me I am at a loss myself on how to make it better But one day at a time we will be fine The raindrops now remind me of the endless tears I cry Wiping these tears tell me how your memory is drying out Slowly I am loosing you and at times I think you just playing another prank Of not doing something or not remembering You are lost at sea and can’t remember when you wandered off You say things not relevant to the situation And as time slowly ticks away I cannot bring you back to shore I miss the meals you brought me in bed And how you loved to be the best dressed person in the room One moment you are here and the next you just wander off You talk to yourself and say things out of context. Yesterday you forgot who I was And when I mention Danny, you ask “who is he” And when I try to talk to you all I get are grunts and rants about other things I am here with you now and always We will get through this together. Even though the spark is dying We will make the best of now I will look out for those moments when the spark lights up and your fire burns with the memories locked up inside of you.
