Poem
When you're in the womb You are measured and assessed When you are born You are measured and assessed As you grow each month and year You are measured and assessed When you go to school You are measured and assessed When you have a job or career You are measured and assessed When you have relationships You are measured and assessed In every aspect of your life And in every step of your life You are measured and assessed By various grades and criteria And at no point in any of these Is your spiritual or mental well-being Ever really measured or assessed Until there is potentially a glaring problem Or unless you choose to step outside This rat race and do self-reflection Look within and learn and grow About your authentic self and soul You are born from stars You are part of the Cosmos The entire Universe is within you And is you, no matter what or where you are You have the power of all life inside you You have the power to change perception And the power to change reality And yet you are constantly subjected to testing We are all treated like lab rats in society And most people do not even stop to think about it They do not analyse or question or step outside The lines and boxes and mathematical algorithms Even if you think you've escaped this mundanity You are boxed in by social media and artificial intelligence Herding you ever closer to some strange slaughter That is planned because the little people may wake up This weird matrix that has been constructed Makes us very susceptible to living a lie Living a small existence as allowed by Governments and powerful corporations When will we, the people, stop the madness? When will we stand up to the chaos that is draining us? For decades the alarms have been ringing About so many things that are mostly ignored From the environment to the annihilation of species The racism and sexism and destruction of cultures and creeds The mental health and education and welfare and overall health chaos The power hungry, greedy, elitist games and traps That create infighting where there should be solidarity Where people see nationalism instead of humanity Where they see lines and differences instead of similarity And through it all, we are measured and assessed Step by step throughout our lives Not realising that we are part of a great extinction Of ourselves and our authentic greatness We are becoming shells That echo into the Universe Wondering why our souls Have to keep coming back © M Morris, 2022
