"The Will to Survive" It was a peaceful time back then in the dreams that were once our prepossessing future. sands of time dragged under our bare feet while the crystal clean warm ocean of life that once was, washed over our carefree summers in mermaid caves in the times of the dolphin queen and the starfish huntress. treasures were contained in wish jars and sooner than later, lids frisbee thrown, were released graciously from over-protective hands and the captives launched escape to their own concept of freedom; we were all in elementary school back then, holidaying, where swaying beach trees whispered their secrets in cool calm breezes listening to the laughter of small children, songs flew like pelicans and in the air we all breathed, there remained the exotic perfume of golden wattle, bottle brushed banksia, and in the garlands of seaspray, the sweetness of untainted wild honey from bees, that didn’t sting poison, like small machines in nightmares, capturing all our waking moments, drawing blood like parasites and seeding Morgellan fibres under our skin all seeing and breathing. treacherous surveillance was the state, it had no place in the microcosm of an idealised fantasy wanting to be free and real. we were monitored and ankle tagged as criminal specimens audited in a prison planet. the child eventually grew, sadly its shadow overtook the beautiful monster, darkness has a way of doing that, it manipulates, colludes and grooms, it shapes one to blend in and the fast losing unaware become something other, variously deceived by then, they are the last to learn that rumours of the perpetuating familial lineage, of the calculated bloodlines, genetically were revealed to be unfortunate and true, imprinting the stratosphere blueprint for the impressions of a slow evolving, yet swift betrayal, no less than by that which was held most dear and close. first there was trust, then there was betrayal. you cannot have one without the other. you cannot be betrayed by someone you do not trust. the saddest thing, it never comes from enemies. those who don't know the value of loyalty, can never appreciate the cost of betrayal. the house of cards, fallen, in that long past chapter back then in the quaint dreams of our prepossessing future; that awakening arrived far far too late from the bright blues of a hemisphere plummeting sullied on our once shining horizons. the sucking of gravity blew us out of the race entirely. the gate had been opened to beautiful monsters and closed to us, and those confident beautiful monsters embraced their full glory. they no longer had the need to pretend that fairy tales and mothers mattered. they graduated to another level. cruel machinations bulldozing over the dreams and hopes of absent others. rank and file is determined by their new freedom of choice, their will to survive. Love took a battering, but like Love - Love stood firm never an inch did it move. it remained, unconquered and unwavering. of course, the realists claim Love was in denial. the beautiful monsters created a new world of their own trying to locate kinder hearts to build their new beautiful monster home (LadyLabyrinth / 2022)
