Poem
Who are they, Them? Or the ones some would like to blame or castigate which group, all of whom, of which ones individually, and why exactly? The labels they place, the irrational discreet silhouettes in the alley darkest way, or even in the light of day. What color, what hue, what pretense, what logic bestows them apart from anyone else? Are they of a group of some ill faction some congenial political spectrum that found itself embedded in some odd grouping, some odd folk out, conjoined at the hip with some other bigger unintelligent force? Are they evil, who are them, is it a color or hue of their skin, or a religion, or some pattern so easily defined as being one of them? The other day I was hiking near an old folks home, and they let those old people out, they came out with their walkers one by one, some by themselves, some in pairs two or three, the only thing they had in common wasn't just that most needed to use a walker, but that they all were happy to to being walking about in the free open spaces. These were elderly folks who lived mostly eighty years or so, they were each individuals who held, each one, incredible stories within their own lives, these were old people who maybe know something, are they them? Next door is a child's daycare. These are young babes too young to go to kindergarten, kids of every persuasion, are they them? The world is joyful, somber, tough, incredible, dying... People are disconnected instead of the opposite. There is no conspiracy, yes, perhaps in economics there certainly is some rigging going on, yes most certainly. there are authoritarian regimes, yes. But it's not the people, not a group of any one kind. Don't you see, can't you see? I know most folks of every kind cares a bit more than calling any people Them. This is the truth and it's high time we start making that fact apparent! Work to stop the hate. Work together like a team, disagreement is fine, but don't call me them. Unless you want to call me you. I am you. Don't you see. I am you. I am them. Please!
