Poem

This ain't a playdate

And I am not 8

In fact I am near on pushing the
grand old age of 55

And truth be told I have barely anything
to show for all of those many year's 

Apart from a few tired anecdotes and
boring stories to relay in a bar

That for a price of a free beer ,chaser
or 2 the local barfly will be willing to hear

That is until the bedraggled bartender call's
last orders and time and usher's us both out

As he has a home to go to and probably
so to assume a certain someone also
to go home to

Whereas for me I am just getting started and
now have to find a open late or all night bar

That hopefully has another similar soul as I
sitting in a corner nursing a drink pondering
where it all went wrong

Or maybe he is just patiently waiting for
a friend or date who is merely running late

Then again maybe he has been stood up
or is still prepared to wait as long as it takes
knowing full well they had no intention of
ever coming in the 1st place

1 thing is for sure he has done me a massive
favor which I should be ever so grateful for

Because as long and at least I am now focused
and thinking about him I have now temporarily
forgotten about me and my woes

Because in this life there's a lot of people
like these nicely tucked away out of sight

Who sadly have nobody no family nor friend's
through no apparent fault of their own

Apart from the melting ice cube's swirling
inside a tumbler glass or blowing the froth
from a beer bottle 

Wishing the haze and the fog of the booze
will kick in sooner rather than later and
make the world somehow disappear

Sobering reality isn't it
