Poem

She was the healing witch, the one aptly sought.
She could fix the ripened apples, so they would not rot.
Her witchy ways were often solicited, but never bought.
Her familiar cat Casey, she always brought and taught.

She was picking her way through the garden today.
I watched her and Casey, although far away.
They looked to be on a mission. Do they ever play?
The weird thing is, they never take any pay.

Why didn’t you follow them? My cousin asked me.
I am scared of witches I replied, and I was drinking tea.
The witch’s motto is “Blessed be”; so don’t you agree…
You would have been safe? My cousin asked me.

I did not want to slow them down, I lied.
I was actually, truly, mortally, almost terrified.
If one of them slipped or fell or got hurt or cried
What could I do? I am not a nurse trained or certified.
