Poem
He was so excited when he stumbled on the cave during deer season two years ago. .As this was the region he patrolled he immediately posted signs stating danger at its entrance due to natural gas pockets within. The ruse intended to keep anyone else from entering and finding the supplies we had been systematically taking there since. The cave branched out in three directions.West opposite the entrance which went deeply within and led to a fresh water spring. We covertly had samples tested for purity as well water from our property. Not only potable but a source of minerals as well. In this gallery which was large as a ballroom we had lardered our food supplies safely stored in large tins wrapped in heavy mill trash bags against the ever present moisture. The spring could be used to keep things chilled for days .Arlis an excellent hunter was adept with a bow Feverishly he pushed me on this his pet project every free moment.Every weekend I knew what we would be doing.Gathering, transporting in the dark of night to this cave partially concealed at the base of a bluff in the midwest. The North branch a smaller area we had made into a makeshift medical unit with every conceivable need including antibiotics from the farm supply store. And finally the living quarters in the South branch.A library which includes Edibles of missouri, medicinal herbs, Your home medical companion, the works of William Shakespeare and a bible. Games such as checkers, uno, scrabble, cards, dart board, and last but not least chess which he insists I must learn. All stored in a large plastic storage tub. Buried in the South gallery is another coffee can with Cash in the event we are now experiencing. No access to account and generalized chaos .Perhaps In time it will come in handy. Though he was working at the far reaches of his territory he should have been here by now.Arlis had been a forest ranger since before we met.It was all he had ever wanted to do.Till he embraced this obsession for prepping. Guess he was right after all,the dominoes began tumbling with the San Andreas and the Yellowstone Caldera following suit.A river of people were making their way to the midwest. When I first saw the info online I thought it was click bait only to find the whole west quarter in turmoil as a cloud of ash was slowly working it's way eastwardly. What a nightmare I'd dug a Dakota fire hole to conceal the fire from view.Nothing to do now but sit and wait ,feed the fire ,and pray.
