Poem

Have you ever roamed a land, 
One that was decimated by a storm, 
Where once people lived and lives prospered, 
One where happiness was part of the daily norm, 

A storm, a natural phenomenon,  
That appears out of nowhere and kills it all, 
The smiles, the happiness, the joy, 
Everything thrown heads first onto a brick wall, 

Left in pieces of dust,  
Death and destruction everywhere, 
Dreams savaged, houses ravaged, 
Lives left in despair, 

Something no one could ever control,  
Something no one could even begin to understand, 
The great phenomenon called nature, 
The one that destroyed the sandcastles in the sand, 

If as a privileged person, you ever get a chance, 
To visit such a destructed land, 
Please do your part as a human, 
And extend a helping hand, 

In a storm, actual deaths might not accompany, 
But lives are lost, 
Entire life’s work, standing on decimated grounds, 
A storm maneuvering with it a gigantic cost, 

One with a heart and soul, 
Cannot stand the look in people’s eyes, 
The ones sitting outside their destroyed homes, 
The feeling being just too hard to recognize, 

Families in dismay, 
Trying to comprehend the reality, 
An emotion so sad 
It breaks the singularity, 

Though in the end, as an eloquent writer,  
What truly grinds my gears, 
Channels use them for headlines, 
Whilst silently subduing their tears.
