I saw the great con that was Y2K I saw all the scaremongering go away I saw in my arms a child I love so I saw that I did not want to let him go I saw that I was truly blessed I saw it but would never have guessed I saw the 43rd President sitting on a stool I saw a cowboy, a jackass, and a fool I saw death on the ground, terror in the skies I saw all my worst fears realised I saw danger where there was none I saw weapons but not of mass destruction I saw a curse on the beast and on the plough I saw foot-and-mouth and mad cow I saw an Intifada, a Jihad, a road map to peace I saw a man beg for his life and release I saw smugglers and pirates on the high seas I saw ransoms paid to armed Somalis I saw in Bali the casualties of blood and gore I saw a smiling assassin smiling no more I saw tracer fire and smart bombs inbound I saw a war criminal hiding underground I saw a wedding ring and a wedding coat I saw an iceberg and a lifeboat I saw a wave that could drown the world I saw a human tragedy unfold I saw dust on the land and looked to the sky I saw a way of life dry up and die I saw a war without armies - a new enemy I saw the bastards didn’t look much like me I saw a destructive mistress wilder and meaner I saw that her name was Katrina I saw a new age of covetous excess I saw I long for when more means less I saw God in everything I do I saw He is watching me, watching you I saw Hezbollah and Hamas their rockets launch I saw the seed of David faithful and staunch I saw the world running scared of Osama I saw a false prophet in a man called Obama I saw bail-outs and stimulus in the west increase I saw a sleeping giant awakened in the east I saw I saw a crisis and a house of cards fall I saw once again greed began it all I saw the earth ravaged and scorched I saw smoking trees where it had been torched I saw Facebook and Twitter all etiquette replace I saw a generation lost in cyberspace I saw the King of Pop popping pills I saw that in the end fame and persecution kills I saw the King of Israel in a prophesy reign I saw that which is old will be new again I saw governments and corporations profit in war I saw it’s better to be a pimp than a whore I saw the mark of the beast where tyrants trod I saw Putin and the wrath of God I saw a book of great love and tragedy I saw it in the tale that is The Samaan Tree I saw a half century end and another soon start I saw I am still here and young at heart I saw this decade through the eyes of a dad I saw that I was grateful for everything I had Written: April 2010
