Poem
After boxing day, What are we going to do, I look at you , And you look at me, Simultaneously we Say, we have 6 days free We look a little lost we have Not planned a holiday, I know Let’s go to have breakfast At the Mall We bump into Fred, and Beth, Harry, Jane and even Sall, We make small talk So as to be polite, But I’m thinking, who else We will bump into today, And who finds a table next to us But my mother and father in law, We are off till next Monday, Isn’t that grand, we can do so Much together, today is our treat, Tomorrow can be yours, I’m sick and tired of washing Dishes and dirty floors! I phoned a guest house Just by chance, wrote it on a napkin, booked immediately, got a smile and a thumbs up from my spouse. I’m determined to make the Next five days, pure fun, And make them the most, Unforgettable days of our lives! Fortunately, thank goodness, A big guest house down by the sea, Just the two of us Hun, and Nicky and Bree! We are in good spirits when we arrive, But see a dark green ranger in the drive, Isn’t that your …I begin to say, not Impossible they had no clue, they fling Open the door and spread their arms, Embrace all four of us, I must say That my mother-in-law has certain charms! They had heard us planning and saw the Napkin, phoned the guest house who assured Them there were three en suites left, We will take all three! We didn’t know who would fill all three, But were about to see! Grinning and greeting us at the door, was Tessa my sister- in- law, and her husband Deft, Who had his way of talking, sadly had a cleft. And their 4 children who immediately run To our children, put on their bathing suits, And ran to the edge of the sea, splashing Water, laughing gleefully. My father-in-law, booked my husband for chess That night, and Deft was responsible for supper. We looked at each other knowingly, Perhaps this was actually meant to be, God knew what he was doing and wanted Us to form a strong bond, we did such incredible Things together which multiplied by the score In the 5 days left, we actually grew close So much so, that each caught a doze Of flu, from the other…… All inter wound into one happy extended family, And when our goodbyes were said, We promised to see each other a lot more! First I think, as a family we should visit the zoo, This destination annually becomes less, only few, Oh, and how about another day trip to the Sea, a picnic basket and just you and me Everyone has the same idea, hello Nette, And over there is Fred and Betty, don’t fret, We start packing to leave Still have the picnic basket in tow, But it rains so we go home. Tomorrow we are taking the children to the fair, I haven’t been on a roller coaster, For years, I wouldn’t feign to try or dare. I needed Dutch courage, so trace my steps Back to a beer garden, have a cold foamy beer, Burb, and follow my family, get buckled in, We have got to the absolute crest, I throw up and it flies, all over the old dear, Sitting in front of me, but we are going so fast, She thinks it’s a bird, this roller coaster ride Will be my last, Another day written off, and 1 more day left To entertain my family, how about the circus I say, But that poor camel down there looks distraught Lets’ cross this one out, for our enjoyment Will amount to nought! It is now the day before New Years Eve, How about we shop for a dress for tomorrow night, We mustn’t forget to buy masks, Everything must be just right, Billy and Sue, our best friends, are having This New Year’s Eve do, My husband’s cell phone rings, The party is off, Sue has bad flu, And so New Year Eve arrives, and we Decide to stay home, go to the supermarket And get a ton of king size prawns, Will cook them on the braai tonight, Under the moon which is going to be bright, Play scrabble with our two sons, Say goodbye 2021 and hello new year, The future a mystery, don’t want to know, What will happen, take place or show, The future is the future, The past is the past! FOUND THIS POEM IN MY COMPLETED FILE RESERVED FOR THEM ALONE, BUT FORGOT TO POST – CHRISTMAS IS ONLY 6 MONTHS AWAY AND THIS ONE SIX MONTHS OLD.
