Juneteenth On this day in 1865 was the day That the slaves were freed It was out to an end And our lives sort of Started to begin Begin to make sense We became more Than just workers We became nutururers To our own No longer had to feel owned Or to be told what to do Like back in the day With sojourner truth We always stood for something As so did Harriet Tubman She stood for us Now we stand for her No matter what may occur We are living in a wicked world All we have is each other This world should have never been split Or separated by color The color black Is major It's dark But when you add all the ingredients It's the perfect part It stands out Have its own mind We don't wait , can't waste no more time We celebrate black excellence So many paved the way They made a bill We have our own day To celebrate Appreciate Work hard Dedicate Look at us , look at our future We have became entrepreneurs Look at whatat we hold It feels good to have control Control of my destiny Don't care if others think less of me I am what others wish they could be Be understood Through the bad And the good Sweat and tears Tears and sweat Feeling it The neglect Still trying To inspire You can do anything Your heart desire Here you go Light the fire Never let the flame burn Work hard Everything given to you shall be earned I love to see Us all in unity Even if we fall We can all stand No matter what color Hold each other hand No matter what we face We are a part of a human race June teenth The teenth of June We will blossom We will bloom Into something awesome Very soon And all that I will say Is we will be great someday Names speak volume Volume in our name Let's be a part of change Change minds Change hearts Do our thing Play our part Keep God in it Keep him first He will help us through better or worse Our doctors, lawyers ,teachers and friends Thank you for setting the trend Tyler Perry , Oprah , Whoopi Goldberg Thanks for letting visions and stories be heard Giving people a chance Who say they couldn't But you proved they can It's so many to name Thank you all for being a part of change I feel like I covered what needs to be complete Happy Juneteenth Written by : Concetta Hardnett 06/19/2022
