Poem

Dear Father, mine. 

I ran away from bad. 
I took my children with me.
I found a place to run to. 
It was an empty castle on a hill. 
You, and your family... 
lived right next door.

We met when times were hard. 
You helped me raise my family. 
You never asked me for answers... 
you were just there. 
We started out as strangers... 
your first wife, then your second. 
Angels walking among us, 
only for a short time. 
Blessed. 

Broken pieces placed together, 
on a table full of pictures, 
not from a puzzle, but a life... undone. 
Each part, as important as the next, 
but not important at all, 
as together, they are, 
and would be an ever, greater 
combination of the whole. 

Honored, and proud to be claimed. 
Lost, but found again, 
in the trash, on the ground. 
Left, beside the road...  on a lonely highway, 
that had no off-ramps, for miles and miles, at a time.
A special friendship, a gift that has a value, 
that can not be clearly stated, 
except to those that have been, 
without for too long, or even... 
forever. 

Dancing to a new song, 
that has been there all along... 
Some fathers know you your whole life, 
and never know you at all. 
While strangers, that become friends... 
surpass the promise of family, to be more than, 
a miracle.
