I look at it
looking at me

So silent,
so sinister this immobility

I smell
Something 
different from fragrance of her hair
no one is there

Perhaps out there
In the nebulous air
Where words live
Like birds
In a scramble of trees
Outside the brain
Outside
Fallen from the slippery tongue
Perhaps out there on a wave
Undulating
Around the noise of space
Perhaps
In a jumble of tangled calls
No one can trace
Perhaps lost
Perhaps a ring
So I can click
Off
What I am expecting
Perhaps out there
A tiny word
from your line of thought
Won't make it
To the reprieving 
ring

I wait
A man does not wait for a ring
Or beep so long
Love had promise

It looks at me
toying with my emotions
time drags

My eyes from it to sleep
A ring
The police benevolent union

Hang it up
I will not beg, I will not call

Darling, its ten days now
I did not know
the hospital kept you so long

You did not call,
O I should not say that, sweetheart
Love does not depend on the phone at all.
