Life Comes to You You can’t plan life, Life comes to you, God is the only One Who knows the direction Our life will go, Our dreams and goals Sometimes get put on hold Or rejections come our way You can’t plan life Life comes to you, So, it is a long time Before good news comes our way, Or for example, A soldier who is a pianist, Gets his hands blown off by a grenade, He no longer can be the performer He dreamed of being, But he instead becomes a record producer, You can’t plan life, Life comes to you, So many things go wrong In life, Sickness, loss of a job, Tragedy, All unforeseen, You can’t plan life, Life comes to you, No one planned for what Happened on 9/11, So many lives were taken That fateful day, Other lives were totally changed forever, You can’t plan life Life comes to you There were two old soldiers, You know them well, Bob Dole and Danny Inouye, Two outstanding Senators, Their plans were to be doctors, When the war was over, But both of them were wounded, Bob Dole lost the use of one of his arms, Danny Inouye lost an arm, So, they both went in a new direction Decided to be lawyers, Later to run for office, You can’t plan life, Life comes to you Too many people, Winners of pageants, Celebrities and even People in government, Get on a pedestal to announce With such disregard for God And God’s plans for all of us, That as they so boastfully proclaim: “I can be anything I want to be!” “I can do anything I want to do!” To that I say “Balderdash!” You can’t be anything you want to be! You can’t do anything you want to do! You can’t plan life, Life comes to you The old Scottish proverb says quite succinctly, “The best laid schemes of mice and men, Gang aft agley” And as Tony told Lucy on “General Hospital” You can’t plan life, life comes to you, My grandfather had a lot of wisdom He always spoke of “The Book and the Candle” He said whatever God wrote in the book for you, That’s what would happen in your life, If God didn’t write it down Then it wouldn’t come to be, A tall candle means a long life, A short candle means a short life, It’s all in the book and the candle, My grandfather’s words of wisdom, The Italians believe in Fate, Destiny, What is meant to be, You can’t plan life, Life comes to you.
