God, you said to offer a lamb,
but your wish puts me in a jam.
Why kill a lamb? I am no brute,
I’ll sacrifice instead some fruit.

Like Lucifer in heaven on high,
you view me with an evil eye.
His prideful heart and selfish will
in time your sulking soul would fill.
 
My folks think I’m the Promised Son,
through whom sin’s battle will be won.
So, why would you, my brother choose,
and cause me, my temper to lose?

Cain, your attitude is not right,
I’m not pleased when my will you slight.
Beware, he who like a lion roars
is crouching just outside your door. 

 His sore temptation made you stressed.
Yielding to him made you depressed. 
Then as he daily pushed and pressed,
your hard heart made you fail the test.

Your seething anger made you shake
and caused your rebel heart to ache.
You snared your brother like The Snake
then you, his precious life did take.

What contradictions in you lie,
unlike He who comes from the sky.
He to man is a life-giver
you by contrast a life-taker.

O what blessings you did forfeit
by yielding to crass self-conceit.
Selfishness and independence
banished you from Yahweh’s presence.

Let us from Cain learn a lesson
that will with joy life’s sojourn bless.
Give heed to your Creator’s will
and He with peace your life will fill.
