"Perspective of an Invisible People" Struggling for over four hundred years Drowning in rivers of tears Throughout the country's history Accepting black people, still a mystery Since the country's discovery, we've been abused Standing with strength, will prevent us from being misused Visualizing the country's brutal truth Unable to get pass the sleuth I dare you ask for our credentials Having proven already, our potential Creating a kerfuffle with the Supreme Court nominee It's not a surprise who they want it to be Hell bent on dumbing us down Because the uneducated continue to frown Continuing with this sordid past Wondering how long the abuse will last The country's demographics are diverse Yet the blended family is not the worst Giving misinformation about race Slamming those untruths in our face Trying to rewrite history, by banning books Common criminals, they're all crooks Never allow your life to be stagnated Let your successes be celebrated Don't allow yourself to be a pity party Focus on the positive result, as hearty Don't throw crumbs to patronize us Black people stay strong, as we must Rise up from the foot stool Be strong, resilient, with our rules This two party system should be about democracy But daily is being made a mockery The Constitution is not a document of healing But rather a play on our feelings Self-evident, is all of the hatred As we are still being degraded We are constantly seen as a threat There really is a difference, I bet We are not just others, we are brothers Relying on the convictions of our mothers Family is all we got Embrace it or not The resolve for black people is God Answered prayers gives a nod Dam if we do, Dam if we don't Think about what you want Black people, continue to be you We can only progress with what we do Continue to be intentional and selfless Whatever your truth, be willing to confess We are unique and complex Don't allow yourselves to be vexed Two Americas, separate and not so equal Realizing we are living in a sequel In spite of progress made It seems we have nothing to trade We see vividly, white privilege portrayed It's still clear we are being betrayed Will there come a time, when black people get a foot hold Maybe being intentional and bold Social ills and police brutality A true construct in reality Politics is just a game The more things change, the more they stay the same I've never understood their reasoning It's like a gourmet meal without seasoning Your dislike is because of the color of our skin With such a separatist view, we can't win Unbalanced equity in the law Forces us to use a claw Our children are the future Don't allow the doctor to miss a suture Think about the many possibilities They continue to shirk their responsibilities No protection for babies unborn After birth, they are left torn Constantly preaching, you must not abort Yet they offer policies to remove support Healthcare is critical for survival But Politicians are so unreliable Crime is an ill of society Comes in illegal variety Jealousy, wide spread within our ranks We don't have collateral for the banks We will never receive earned reparations Our options to stay afloat, are inspirations They're laser focused on suppressing our vote We shouldn't overlook this action, but take note Determined commitment for authoritarian rules They must think that Black people are fools The more black people gain Still permanent scars of pain Moving in modern day slavery Strengthens our resolve and bravery This country owes us nothing Simply seeking an opportunity for something Through it all, God has us covered Shielding a people from being smothered Authored by: Floyd Lee Neal Jr. March 19, 2022
