Poem
I’m not a very good Christian There are days when I don’t do it right I think of all of my worries and sorrows Without giving God the glory and praise I let circumstances bring me down in the muck Of depression, darkness and despair I feel like I’ve given every part of my heart To something other than the One Who gave me my heart and soul to begin with And forgave me for the selfishness and sin I’m not a very good Christian There are times when I let life break through The joy and inspiration He brings me With His precious love, His wisdom and grace The feelings that remind me I’m blessed Beyond any dreams I might have had More than I can believe when I consider All the promises He’s guaranteed with His hope For a time when I will spend eternity In the light of His love, His warmth, His glory I’m not a very good Christian There seems to be so much of His word That simply goes unheard – I just don’t listen And He never fails to give me the opportunity to Heed His kindness and mercy, His wonder The beauty that falls from His mercifulness When I fail to hear with my heart He sometimes gestures to me with a thought A reminder that I must let go of control And allow Him to color my world in His love I’m not a very good Christian My faith isn’t always a shining example of love My hopes are sometimes filled with selfishness And my love isn’t always stirred as it should be I’m not always filled with generosity or kindness My soul isn’t always armed with goodness I don’t always treasure the joy of someone else In the same way I cherish my own godsends No – I’m not a very good Christian But, a Christian I am all the same When He gave me the chance to become His child He didn’t say I had to be perfect or whole I’m not the finished product by any means But I am His and through faith, by His grace I have been saved and delivered from sin And, I know that He loves me unconditionally With a love that never ends – It is eternal And, even though I’m not a very good Christian He made me see that to Him, I am worthy
