I’ve come to my autumn years
While my heart falls silent
Trembling with its gentle tears
Reflecting on the former things
Some hopes and other fears

I’ve come to my ending days
When my soul yearns for light
Shining tenderness who prays
For comfort of the worrier
Needing healing of anxious ways

I’ve come to my lost, faded dreams
When breathless smiles reach out
Caressing me with joys it seems
Alive and yearning in hues of grace
Ringing with kindly, rosy themes

I’ve come to my darkest dismay
Whispering fright in nightmares
Weakening one who will portray
All the sweetness of joyful prayers
Praise of the One who I’ll not betray

I’ve come to my finishing of the race
Reflecting on the gentleness of thanks
Raining down love that can’t replace
The music in the soul, the wonderous hope
Of an affection I’ll never be able to erase

I’ve come to my conclusion, lastly
Awakening life in the heart and soul
Coloring feelings in hues so vastly
They stir up promises of the end
When love burns so alive, steadfastly

I’ve come to my close of my lifetime
Where my spirit reflects on insights
Basking in joys that lived in old time
When my heart was more familiar
With the presence of famous springtime

Whether I let the past embrace me
With its splendors, it’s exaltations
Or I finally let go and simply agree
The time has come to turn my heart
Toward God where I’ll be set free

I’ll let go and let God take my soul
Up to the heavens where I’ll give Him
All my praise, all my spirit to console
With the knowledge that I’m living
With the One who made my heart whole
