Poem
When I was young And in church I can remember singing “What a friend we have in Jesus” And I didn’t think about it too much It was a song we sang A hymn from the long ago Past that I didn’t know Just how it would someday color my hopes In light and love, kindness From above When I sang that old, old hymn I didn’t realize just how well That song described just how I’d feel After many years of walking with Him My heart’s beloved, the One from above Jesus Christ, the best friend I know of “What a friend we have in Jesus” Today reminds me of just how much I love the One who lights my spirit With His brilliant hope, peace and joy All the feelings that I wonder at Because they remind me that He is alive Living inside where I can never hide My heart’s desire, my dreams, my prayers All the yearnings that I’ve ever felt He knows it all – just like a best friend He is my heart’s warmth – like I know He inspires in me – through His brilliance His amazing grace – His forever gift Of salvation, the way toward forever With Him, the lover of my soul The only One I know of Who is love come to life Relieving all strife And showing me, in time, I will find the strength I need To overcome every weakness And simply believe – He is the answer His love is my chance to Enter paradise, with a open heart A insight into the prayers I pray For His love to reach out through me Every day, in every way With a spiritual blessing to those Who reach out to me with hope And remind me that I am a door Opening up to the heart who yearns For a love that is more beautiful and wonderous Than the moon or stars, the sun and earth More wonderful than any light Shining down on the heart who loves And does the will of the God who gives us A Son who welcomes souls into heaven! “What a friend we have in Jesus” reminds me That love was poured out inside me, to guide me and abide in me!
