Poem
To shepherds dwelling in the fields one dreary night so long ago lo there appeared an angel bright telling of Christ, the savior’s birth. The babe you’ll find in swaddling clothes in manger rough and lined with straw. With joy the heavenly choir sang of peace on earth, goodwill to men. Quickly the shepherds went to see the savior baby Christ the Lord. And O the joy that filled their hearts as they beheld the God-sent babe. Instead of shrine to worship him their hearts became his dwelling place. They shared the news with all they met bidding them, accept the savior. Around age two the wise men came in search of Christ the infant king. And when they found him whom they sought they gave the gifts which they had brought. Down through the corridor we’ve come and have a day we’ve set aside to celebrate the savior’s birth yet for him our hearts have no room. We grope in darkness like the blind while rejecting the source of light. Fatigued by war, we seek for peace but for its prince we have no place. And how we love to receive gifts of things that bring no lasting joy but as for God’s most precious gift we’ve turned our backs saying, no thanks. We claim to celebrate Christ’s birth but loathe the mention of his name. Instead, we sing of Santa Claus and Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. Then there are those who claim to be the children of the savior dear They go to church on Christmas eve their yearly duty to fulfill. It's time to end the great charade If Christ is Savior, heed his call join nobles, wise men, shepherds, all and let him save you from the fall.
