The Way of the Coconut The Way of the Coconut, that is our creed, The coconut gives us all that we need. From mental to physical, nothing left out, It covers everything, without any doubt. Where to begin, it’s really quite hard, The topic complex, ahh, to be the Bard. Called the ‘Tree of Life’ for very good reason, Coconut usage covers every season. Over one hundred uses for this seed, So that it supplies our every need. Every part of the seed has a use, From husk for fiber and the juice. Versatility it has and it’s hard to imagine, Any other plant product that works in that fashion. For some, coconut bras are where it’s at, Works for the skinny and works for the fat. And if the insides are left in haste, They add a delicious extra taste. Also from coconut, grass skirts if you dare, They certainly make men stop and stare. Kitchen utensils come immediately to mind, And easily found in many a kind. Sets I have seen, some very complete, Useful for anything, vegetable or meat. And of course, the taste, whether whole or grated, It’s oftimes difficult to become sated. The taste of the flesh is simply divine, Goes with so many things, exceptionally fine. And let’s not forget the meat of this nut, Which everyone wants to stuff in their gut. This substance is chewy, not anywhere near weighty, One cup of coconut has calories two eighty. The way of the coconut, Almond Joy. What can I say but, “Oh, boy!” Almonds and chocolate, I can claim them as mine, But with the coconut they become sublime. And coconut water versus coconut juice? There is no difference in substance or use. It’s a perennial monocot, this means of them, That what looks like a trunk is really a stem. Even medicinal functions has this ‘herb’, With all other uses, it’s just so superb. As a plant, it’s unique and a bit ironic, Pure coconut juice is quite isotonic. During WWII it was amazing to see. Coconut water used as IV. Without sterilization, they used instead, Coconut juice, soaking suture thread. Its lauric acid is saturated but you don’t have to frown, Blood vessels by it are not shut down. So loved is this fruit, some claim it’s the answer, To curing heart disease as well as some cancer. And if you want ‘green’, well the coconut’s a score Most grown by small farmers on hectares less than four. And the coconut palms are quite prolific, And every year, up to 200 terrific Coconuts they make but they slowly mature, Up to twelve months to ripen of that we are sure. The marvelous coconut has worldwide fame, And most other languages have the name. In Hawaiian and Samoan it’s niu, in Kymer it’s dong, In Filipino it’s buko as well as butong. In Japanese it’s kookos also kokyashi no mi To coco in Portuguese and in Nauru, ini. And so many words has Swahili, Like ununu, kidaka and kisambli. Even a made up tongue like Esperanto, Have its coconut word, kokoso. So no matter how much the world is with strife, The coconut covers all aspects of life. If all the people with all their travail, Would practice “The Coconut”, peace could prevail.
